Varsity Wrestling 2017-2018

My favorite season is fast approaching “wrestling”. The new varsity season is just around the corner (practices starting November 6th).    There are lots of changes this year starting with a new head coach.

We are pleased to have Joe Widrick as the new varsity head coach.   Mr. Widrick comes to us with many wrestling accolades.   Coach Widrick comes to us by the way of Beaver River School (please don’t hold that against him) where he graduated in 2007.  Coach Widrick was a 3-time section 3 champion and a 3-time New York State place finisher.  Coach Widrick went on to wrestle at SUNY Cortland while achieving his degree in Physical Education.  After college he got his first job and coaching position at South Lewis where in his 5 seasons he produced a formidable team. His love and knowledge of wrestling is contagious.  He truly wants to see everyone to succeed in wrestling and in life.  He currently is a Physical Education teacher at Lowville Academy and lives in the village of Lowville with his wife and two beautiful girls.

don’t think there will be a question who the leaders are in the wrestling room this year.  Isaiah Roes and Brent Millard started wrestling in their early years with the youth program and are now seniors. They are both very talented young men who are leaders on and off the mat with a bright future ahead.  It can be expected that both will have a great year and do well at Sectionals.

A special thanks to Coach John Tabolt for his commitment to the wrestling program at Lowville.  We still expect to see him in the wrestling room as his commitment and ability to motivate is unparalleled.

Congratulations Coach Aubel

Coach Aubel was inducted into the first class of the North Country Sports Hall of Fame on October 7th.  Coach Aubel deserves every award he has received over the years because in his own words he “dared to be great”.

See WWNY for more information about the ceremony and all inductees.

Proud of our North Country Wrestlers!
